Home Made Sodas

Kick the soda can! Tired of store-bought sodas loaded with high fructose corn syrup? Looking for healthy alternatives? Make your own nourishing sodas in your own kitchen! Join Jennifer Sundstrom as we discuss the process of crafting healthy fermented beverages. Fermented foods and beverages nourish our gut flora and promote digestion. We will create our own fermented soda using the ‘culture’ method, and discuss how to grow your own culture. We will also bottle sodas for everyone to take home. Samples of Jennifer’s latest soda batches will be shared to offer inspiration. All materials provided.

 

 


Edible Plant Walk

Weeds, weeds, wonderful  weeds!  Do you  look at ‘nature’ and see one big wall of green?   Plants are as individual and unique as each person.  Join Jennifer Sundstrom as we stroll though the park to greet the spring growth.  We will meet the plants (and weeds!) and discuss food and medicinal  uses, with a focus on wild edible plants.  Tips for sustainable harvesting will be offered.  We will walk, rain or shine, so dress appropriately

Seaweeds for Life: Integrating Seaweeds in the Kitchen

Seaweeds are an incredibly nourishing gift from the sea, but how do we get those gifts into our kitchens and diets? Join Jennifer Sundstrom as we discuss nutritional value and healing properties of these wonderful foods, as well as sampling various seaweeds. We will make several dishes incorporating seaweed into each one, including Kelp Energy Bars, Gamacio, Seaweed Soup, Hijiki sauté, kelp pickles, and others! You will leave with an appreciation for these nourishing foods as well as recipes and some of our creations.  This is a hands-on cooking class. We will work in community to create each dish, then we will enjoy the fruits of our labors. Some seaweed items will be available for purchase.



Heart’s Love: Hawthorn April 30, 2011, Saturday 12:30-3:30pm

Lusty, lovely hawthorn, a strengthener for the heart.  Spend the afternoon with this amazing plant and learn simple ways to bring this plant into your life for health and nourishment.  We will craft goodies for you to take home with beautiful hawthorn.

Comfrey’s Healing Touch

Comfrey, also known as boneset, has been used for centuries by healers and wise women.  Today, controversy surrounds this plant, yet it remains a potent healer.  Explore the nutritional and healing powers of this plant.  We will harvest our own comfrey, and make herbal remedies.  You will also be able to take some home to grow in your own garden.

Altai Portal Festival

I’m very excited to be participating in the Altai Portal Opening.  I will be singing in the afternoon and offering Kirtan in the evening. There will be lots of fun things to participate in with amazingly gifted people. All are welcome to join the festival for as little, or as much as you like. This is a free event (donations accepted).

Nettle Harvest

One of the most nutritious foods on the planet, spend the day in the nettle patch as we learn about the various nutritional, utilitarian, and harvesting methods of nettle.  We will craft a nourishing nettle vinegar for you to take home.  Lunch is included…we will work in community to create each dish (using nettle, of course) for our shared lunch.  Extra nettle may be harvested for you to take home.

Sing your way into greater Oneness through sacred chants and mantras. Experience the transcendence of chant and slip into the warm bath of sacred sound. Kirtan (call-and-response singing the names of the Divine) allows the mind to rest and the heart to blossom. No experience is necessary to directly experience the bliss of chanting. Jennifer and her harmonium (Indian squeeze box) will purposefully lead us deep into the bhakti vibrations. Dancers and instruments welcome…drums, bells, rattles, etc. Bring a cushion to sit on, and water.

 

Beginning Cheese Making

March 20, 2011, Sunday 11am – 3pm

Class size is limited to 10 people

 

Anyone can make cheese at home!   This class will offer you the basics of cheese making in your own kitchen.  We will discuss milk options, cultures, and curdling agents.  This is a hands-on participation class.  We will make butter yoghurt, kefir, mozzarella, (and more), followed by sampling all of our delicious creations.  You will leave with recipes, inspirations, and the ability to start cheese making in your own home.

 

 

 

 

Weekly Kirtan Sangha
- Wednesdays at 7:45 - Bhaktananda Temple on Beacon Hill
(On hiatus until late Sept 2011)
Join us each Monday or Wednesday evening from 7:45 until 9:45 for community kirtan. True community style, anyone can lead, with or without accompaniment. Bring drums, bells, there's a harmonium or 3 you can play, but most importantly bring your heart and voice. This is the sweetest and safest space to take chances, learn something new, or just sink into the bhav. Hari Bol!
